PITCHING MATCHUP

RHP Nick Krisman (1-1, 1.05)

VS.

LHP Crayton Bare (0-1, 3.86)

Tonight's match-up: North Shore is 2-2 thus far in 2010 against the Laconia Muskrats, as both teams have won the two home contests this season. Laconia, who were postponed last night against Newport, is currently just 2.5 games  back of North Shore and looking to make up some ground. Muskrats' starter Nick Krisman is making his first start of the season, as he has struck out 19 in 15 appearances spanning 25.2 IP. Navs' starter Crayton Bare has been dominant this season, going 3-0 in six starts with a 1.45 ERA. Bare was also named to the NECBL East All-Star team, and he pitched a 1-2-3 inning in Newport. The Navs are 5-1 in Bare's starts in 2010.

Last Game (7/21 – Sanford 2, Navigators 1): The Navigators were unable to get the clutch hit late in last night's 2-1 loss to the Mainers, as they left the bases loaded in both the eighth and ninth innings. Sanford's Mike Roth broke up a 1-1 game with a solo homer in the eighth inning after Braxton Graven had tied it earlier with a solo homer of his own in the sixth inning. Navs' starter Kevin Kyle threw five innings and allowed just one run on five hits.

Banos named All-Star Game MVP: Navigators' outfielder Jason Banos received the MVP award at this past Sunday's 2010 NECBL All-Star Game after his sixth inning two-run home run in Newport, Rhode Island. Banos, who also participated in the Home Run Derby during All-Star Game festivities. Unfortunately, Banos turned in an 0-for-4 performance in last night's game, snapping an eight-game hitting streak as well as 20 straight games reaching base. It was the first time he hadn’t reached  base since June 16, and the Columbia product hit .429 over the 20-game span.

Navs' All-Stars shine: In addition to Banos, the other five Navs all made a big impact in Newport. Matt Avery started in centerfield and went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the second inning. Tyler Kuehl also started at second base and scored a run. Nolan Corr, Crayton Bare, and Bryant Gauthier pitched the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings for the East squad. All three tossed perfect 1-2-3 innings as trio combined to face the minimum nine batters. Bare and Gauthier both struck out one. The East pounded out 13 hits offensively while the West was shut out via a one-hitter due in full part to a dominant performance by the Eastern division staff.
