GHS Hall of Fame Adds 11
The Gloucester High School Hall of Fame Committee this week officially announced the newest class for 2006, which features eight athletic inductees and three in the meritorious service category.

The new inductees are Robert Jedrey (class of 1950), Mark Brown (1972), Luis Avila (1985), Joe Havener (1989), Michael Sutera (1989), Regina Randazza (1991), Mario Orlando (1996), and Tristan Colangelo (2000).

For meritorious service: Mary Ellen Callahan, Terry Silva, and Will Gouzie.

A brief ceremony will take place at Newell Stadium prior to the Revere-Gloucester football game on Friday evening, Sept. 8, 2006 at 7 p.m. The induction ceremony will be held in the Benjamin Smith Field House at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006.

The football play-by-play and the Hall of Fame ceremony will be webcast on MSO Web Radio.

GHS Track on a Roll
Gloucester improved to 6-0 on Monday with their victory over Marblehead and Winthrop at Marblehead. The Fishermen beat out Marblehead 79-43 and Winthrop 85-37. First place finishers for Gloucester were: David Brooks (300m hurdles @ 43.0) (High Jump 6'-0"), (110m hurdles @ 16.3), Devin Pleuler (100m dash @ 11.50), John Francis (Mile @ 4:39.7), Luis Hernandez (Long Jump 17'-9.5"), Liam Anastacia-Murphy (800m @ 2:01.6), Chris DiMarco (200m @ 24.2), and Jake Hennessy (2 Mile @ 10:28.4). Second place finishers were: Jesse Cremeans (300m hurdles @ 43.3), (110 hurdles @ 16.6), Luis Hernandez (100m @ 11.5), Peter Asaro (Mile @ 4:43), (400m @ 53.9), Mario Peritore (discus 114-3), (shotput 40-2), Devin Plueler (Long Jump 17-5), Liam Anastasia-Murphy (Triple Jump), and Austin Souza (2 Mile @ 10:31.4). Last but not least finishing third for Gloucester were Devin Plueler (Triple 34-11), Jesse Cremeans (High Jump 5'-10"), John Francis (400m @ 55.4), and Ryan Pinkham (800m @ 2:12.5).

The Fishermen now boast a record of 110-6 outdoors, under Coach, Jim Munn. They are now turning their focus towards their meet against Salem this Thursday at Newell Stadium. (filed by GHS correspondent Mike Torres)

Former Fisherman Pitcher on College Baseball Honor Roll

Congratulations to Mike "Gibby" Gibbon, former Fisherman stand-out and Northeastern Conference Baseball All-Star now a Freshman starting pitcher for Assumption College in College Baseball's Div 2 Northeast 10 conference. Gibbon's 2005, 8 win season was the most by a Fisherman pitcher since 60's phenom Billy McLeod.

This week in the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll...

Mike Gibbon, Assumption (Fr., SP, Gloucester, MA)-Pitched a complete game win over American International, allowing five hits, no earned runs, six strike outs and no walks. Opposing batters hit just .147 from the plate. (Thanks to tip from Mike's family: Bob and Jan Bradford; and Don Gibbon)
