NAVIGATORS ANNOUNCE LYNN'S JEFF WALDRON AS 2010 HEAD COACH
LYNN, MA (February 22, 2010) - The North Shore Navigators are proud to announce
the hiring of Jeff Waldron as their head coach for the 2010 New England Collegiate
Baseball League (NECBL) season.
Waldron, a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, was the captain at Boston
College before spending six years in the Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks,
and Texas Rangers organizations. Waldron ascended to the Triple-A Pacific
Coast League in 2002 with the Tucson Sidewinders, a Diamondbacks affiliate,
and in 2004 with Oklahoma City, a Rangers affiliate.
"Jeff Waldron is the right man for the Navigators, for Lynn, and for
our entire organization moving forward," said Peter Delani, the second-year
General Manager of the Navigators and former major league scout with the Colorado
Rockies and Cincinnati Reds.
"His baseball pedigree--having starred at Boston College, the Cape Cod
League, and in the minor leagues," Delani continued, "is impeccable
and will play a critical role in the development of our players and the opportunities
presented to them.
"Beyond that, he is an outstanding person who comes from a great family
with deep Lynn roots, and he will help the Navigators connect with multiple
constituencies throughout the Lynn community."
Delani selected Waldron to lead the Navigators after Jason Falcon elected
to move from the dugout to the front office.
Waldron becomes the second Head Coach of the Navigators, and will be joined
on his staff by fellow Lynn-native Philip Nicoletti, the Assistant Coach at
Northern Iowa and an Associate Scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Steve
Coffey, a Winthrop-native and a former minor league player with the Chicago
Cubs organization.
Waldron, a catcher during his playing years, competed professionally through
2005. As the captain of the 1999 Boston College Eagles, Waldron hit .399 with
seven home runs, 33 RBI, and 46 runs scored. For his efforts, including a
team-high 15 doubles, Waldron earned All-Region honors in the Northeast and
was selected in the 18th round of the MLB Draft by the Red Sox.
The Navigators are primed to make a run at the NECBL title after reaching
the postseason in each of its first two summers at Fraser Field. The roster
for this upcoming season includes players from the Atlantic Coast Conference
(ACC), Southeastern Conference (SEC), and Big-12.
