Gloucester: Fuller School Administration looking for rental property for their relocation
From Gloucester City Council Chair Jackie Hardy:
Councillors,
Last Friday I was at a meeting with Supt. Safier, Asst. Supt Tarr,
Chairman Pope and CAO Duggan.
Sharing the "gist" of the meeting with the Council:
Both the City and School Administrations will be seeking possible
relocation (rental) properties so that the School Administration
will be able to make the move should the School Committee vote to
declare Fuller surplus.
The locations that were discussed were not definite as they are
still working on the list of possible properties that would
accommodate the needs of the School Administration. Site visits
will be undertaken by the School Dept once that list becomes more
cohesive. They then would work up a contract to rent the new office
relocation.
The funding source reportedly will come from city savings when they
board the school up and eliminate the need to provide utilities to
the building.
The Symphony would be offered the opportunity to use the GHS Auditorium.
The preschoolers will be moved to Emerson Ave.
The YMCA programs would be asked to seek other facilities.
There are many issues that I believe should come to the council
before this grows too many more legs. Chairman Pope agrees that a
joint meeting is in keeping with our committment to each other to
keep the "process" out in the open as previously agreed. We will be
scheduling a joint meeting ASAP. All of our "dance cards" are full.
This information needs to reach all of us and we all need to be
able to ask individual questions as to logistics, timing, funding,
etc.
Chairman Pope did mention at the meeting that he would be in
agreement with me by not rushing this rental and relocation process
through until the council (if SC votes to surplus the bldg.)
informs the School Administration to vacate the building - who said
that we would ask to vacate - there has been some expression that
School Admin would be welcome to stay. These and many, many more are
the questions that we need answers to, no one should be presupposing
what the council will or will not do.... we ALL need to share data
and information in public.
